The Higher Earning in America: Are 529 Plans a Good Way to Save for College?

This article studies whether 529 plans are an effective way for most people to save for college. The 529 plans were created in 1996 to help low- and middle-income American families save for college. Since this time they have adopted more tax advantages and grown substantially as a result. While total balances in 529 plans now exceed $250 billion, less than 3.0 percent of households have a 529 plan. And the majority of 529 plan accounts are held by the wealthiest households. Low- and middle-income households receive little tax savings from investing in 529 plans, and some states count these plans against financial aid. Also, 529 plans are complicated, rules vary by state, and fund management fees tend to be high. Thus, 529 plans are not the panacea to college affordability.

An Illustration of the Bias of OLS for Yt = λY t-1 + U t

Using longitudinal data on undergraduates from 463 American colleges and universities from 1994–99, the authors examine how majoring in economics affects student opinions on 13 social, political, and economic issues. Economics majors were found to begin and end their college tenure with differing opinions on several issues when compared to other majors, and studying economics was found to be related to changes in several opinions. On the whole, studying economics appeared to increase beliefs in favor of personal freedom and decrease support for government intervention in markets. However, the authors find little evidence that economics majors leave college more united on their opinions when compared to the general student population.     

高职高专院校大学生心理健康现状分析与教育对策

大学时期是人生心理矛盾的多发期,而高职高专院校的大学生较其他本科大学生承受着更多的心理压力。目前,高职高专院校大学生心理健康问题呈现递增趋势,已成为阻碍大学生健康成长和顺利完成学业的重要因素。本文从心理健康概念的内涵、高职院校学生心理健康问题的表现特征、高职学生心理健康问题的形成因素进行分析总结,并提出几点教育对策。     

解决两个问题 提高中职生作文质量

制约中职生作文质量的因素很多,涉及的方面很广,提高作文质量要做的工作也很多,但我觉得首先要解决两个问题。第一是要解决学生对作文存在的畏难心理,第二是帮助学生提高运用素材的能力。这是中职生写作文时普遍存在的两个基础问题,而提高运用素材的能力则更为重要。

A Meta-analysis of the Gender Gap in Performance in Collegiate Economics Courses

The conventional wisdom has been that men outperform otherwise equivalent women in collegiate economics courses. Recent work in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields documenting gains by women suggests that it is time to reevaluate the gender performance gap in economics. Surveying 68 studies containing 235 distinct regressions published since 1980, we find that 68.4% of regressions report men outperform women, though this is only statistically significant in 30.7% of regressions. Although the literature points to numerous reasons for this gap, our focus is on the effects of study design and the impact of broad socio-cultural changes over time. Using meta-regression analysis, we find that the likelihood of observing a statistically significant gap has declined noticeably, by almost 3% annually. Although the drop may not be as large as in some STEM fields, the result is highly robust to the specification of the time trend and the model.

基于Android平台学生选课系统的设计与实现

随着目前互联网技术和移动智能终端设备的不断发展，传统的高校应用系统移植到智能终端上已成为必然。现通过对传统学生选课系统的研究，应用Android软件开发技术，实现了高校应用系统中重要部分之一的学生选课系统在智能终端上的应用，包括选修课程、查询选课记录等，提高了学生的选课效率。
